Dear Colleagues,
On September 9th and 10th a scholar strike for racial justice in Canada will take place. The event follows a call from Professor Anthea Butler for a scholar strike to mirror the strikes by WNBA and NBA players to combat anti-black racism. The UBC Faculty Association Executive recently issued an anti-racism statement that supports the goals of the scholar strike. We commit to working with the University to create a cooperative response to future anti-racism strikes and to developing internal policies to combat racism. Faculty Association members are encouraged to consider participating in the associated digital teach-ins or organizing your own events. You may also wish to support students by accommodating students who intend to participate in strike events.
The OCUFA statement in support of the scholar strike can be found on their website.
Sincerely,
Alan Richardson
President
