A Joint Communique from the UBC Faculty Association and UBC Faculty Relations
Dear Sessional Lecturer,
In the most recent round of bargaining, the Parties agreed to change the time that it takes for the vacation pay rate for a Sessional Lecturer to increase from 4% to 6% vacation. It is now “after five (5) consecutive academic years during which the sessional has employment for part of each of those years, (that) vacation pay shall be increased to 6% of gross earnings”. This change is effective as of July 1, 2019.
We are writing to confirm that your vacation pay rate has increased from 4% to 6% and that the change will appear on your January 31st paycheque.
Retroactive vacation pay owed to you will be processed in two separate payments. Two payments are required due to your pay records being housed in Workday and on the prior system HRMS. Retroactive vacation pay for the period November 1, 2020 to January 15, 2021 will be processed on your January 31st paycheque. The retroactive vacation pay up to October 31, 2020 will be processed as a lump sum on a February cheque.
If you have any questions about this change, please contact UBC Faculty Relations or the Faculty Association.
