Every year, campuses across Canada dedicate a week in October to raising awareness of the issues and working conditions faced by Contract Faculty. This event is organized nationally by the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT) and here by your union, the UBC Faculty Association.
As in 2020 we’ve had to curtail some of our local events but in lieu of these we are fortunate to be able to offer another screening of the documentary film “IN SEARCH OF PROFESSOR PRECARIOUS”. We’ve arranged online access all week to this important documentary about Contract Faculty in Canada. For more information and a link to the film, visit our website.
Fair Employment Week is also an opportunity to get in touch with university leaders about the precarious employment status of contract faculty at both UBC campuses. We will be writing to President Santa J. Ono and Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Principal Lesley Cormack and will post a link to the letter on our website.
Nationally, CAUT has organized a number of online events for Contract Faculty in Canada. Visit their website for a list of activities.
The UBC Faculty Association remains committed to working on behalf of our Contract Faculty members. Fair Employment Week is a means to highlight to the university administration and students just how important Contract Academics are to the future of UBC. We hope you’ll take a moment to acknowledge their contributions.
